Santa María Island is a sparsely inhabited island located in the Bay of Arauco, off the western coast of the Biobío Region of Chile. Administered as part of the city of Coronel, the island spans 35 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 2,200. It features a rugged topography with 70-meter cliffs on its western side and was notably uplifted by 1.8 meters during the 2010 Chile earthquake.
